Wikipedia defines a code of conduct as a set of rules outlining the social norms, rules, and responsibilities of, or proper practices for, an individual, party or organization. All too often, many folks assume they are well versed with what is expected of them inside a group, but then find frustration when others do not follow that outline or worse their own actions are not received well because of a perceived infringement of that unwritten law.
Excelsior Games and Comics is dedicated to bringing people together through the joy of games, comics, and a shared love of our “geek” culture. With that goal in mind, I wanted to create a Code of Conduct to govern how members of our community interact with the store, our play space, and other members who play games with us. As participants in this community, I believe that all the members will benefit from a more enjoyable experience by following these easy guidelines.
PUT FUN FIRST
Competition is a part of our games, but win or lose, we keep it friendly, respectful, and fun. This includes an understanding that not all players have the same skill levels. It is important to cultivate an experience that is enjoyable for all players. Remember that fun at another’s expense is not fun at all.
Our community includes a range of diverse people. No matter who sits down at the table with us, we make them feel welcome. Remember we are all human beings. We are not always perfect, but we always have emotions.
KEEP IT CLEAN
We’re all caretakers of the gaming experience, and that includes not only the spaces we play in, but our own personal hygiene. Each of us should help maintain a clean and safe environment for all.
OBEY THE RULES
We follow all event rules in order to create an experience everyone can enjoy. This includes being respectful while instructions are being given so that those who are not familiar with how events are run can have an opportunity to listen and understand.
